Keeping Sage Rishyasringa
as the supervisor, those eminent Brahmin scholars commenced, Ashvamedha/
Horse Ritual of King Dasaratha on the northern banks of River Sarayu. The
ritual went on as per the instructions laid down in the scriptures. On completing the ritual thus, King Dasharatha, donated those lands to the officiating priests, called ritwiks. After receiving the lands, the priests gave them back to King Dasaratha with a request to provide them gems, gold, or cows or anything else that is available, equivalent to the value of the lands. The same were provided to them. Thus, the Ashvamedha/ Horse Ritual was completed. Sacrifice destroys sins. It leads to heaven. It is incapable of being done by other monarchs. King Dasaratha was very much pleased after performing this great sacrifice. |
