Introduction to Bālakāṇḍa
Bālakāṇḍa
contains the following narrations:

Introducing
the King Dasaratha, his Kosala Kingdom and the capital city Ayodhya
·
King
Dasaratha performs Ashvamedha Yagna, to cleanse his sins and beget sons.
·
Shri
Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrigna were born to King Dasaratha.
·
Sage
Vishvamitra arrives and takes Shri Rama and Lakshmana alongwith him, for
getting his Yagna protected from the Rakshasas Subahu, Mareecha and their army
of demons
·
After
protecting the Yagna by Shri Rama, Sage Vishvamitra alongwith Shri Rama and
Lakshmana proceeds to Mithila, the kingdom of King Janaka
·
Shri
Rama brakes the great bow of Varuna there.
·
Marriages
of Shri Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrigna were performed with Sita and her
sisters respectively.
·
King
Dasaratha returns to Ayodhya alongwith his sons and their brides
