Introduction to Kiṣkindhākāṇḍa (किष्किन्धाकाण्ड)
Kiṣkindhākāṇḍa covers the following incidents.
·
Shri
Rama and Lakshmana proceed towards Rishyamuka Mountain, where Sugriva is hiding
from Vali
·
Afraid
of their weapons, Sugriva sends Shri Hanuman, a minister of Sugriva, to enter
into a dialogue with Shri Rama and Lakshmana to find out whether they arrived
at that place at the behest of Vali to kill him, as Vali cannot enter that area
·
Shri
Hanuman approaches them and gets impressed with them and reveals his identity
and asks them their purpose of visit to that place. Lakshmana explains their purpose of visit
·
Shri
Hanuman carries Shri Rama and Lakshmana on his shoulders and fly to the
mountain top and introduces them to Sugriva
·
A
friendly pact was concluded between Shri Rama and Sugriva, with the former to
kill Vali and the latter to assist the former in search of his wife, Sita
·
Shri
Rama kills Vali and makes Sugriva the king of Vanaras and Angada, the son of
Vali as the Prince Regent
·
After
passing of rainy season, Sugriva send his army in the 4 directions in search of
Sita
· The
troops send in North, West and East directions come back without any positive
information
·
The
troop sent in Southern direction consisting of Shri Hanuman, Angada and
Jambavan and others finally reaches the Southern ocean.
·
The
elder brother of Jatayu, the eagle meets them and informs them about the Sita
in the Lanka, 100 yojanas away from the Northern tip of the ocean
·
When
all the vanaras are found to be incapable of flying 100 Yojanas, Shri Hanuman,
at the advise of Jambavan, decides to go to Lanka in search of Sita.
